10k signatures reached for Jacob
On 19th March 2025 14 year old Jacob Calland made a split second decision to go go against his mums advice and jump on the back of his friend's e-scooter. Unfortunately, the scooter hit a car, the impact forced Jacob, who was not wearing a helmet, to be thrown onto the other side of the road where he was hit by a car. After 8 days comatose in intensive care, Jacob sadly died.
Jacob's mother, Carly Calland, wants to educate young people, and has produced a very moving video explaining what happened from her perspective., and has launched a petition to encourage the Government to regulate e-scooters.
Just after the petition reached 10k signatures (and it is still rising), the amount required to get a response from the government, Carly, along with Jacob's friends came to speak with Wythenshawe Radio's Ben Cooper.
